He was Chief of the International Standards Section at UNESCO (Paris Headquarters) in charge of international standard-setting, the intergovernmental elaboration of international law and its implementation in (192) Member States, and of UNESCO Conventions on art, cultural property and heritage<\/h3>\n

a) Former Chief, International Standards Section, UNESCO<\/strong> (HQ Paris, 2002-2007), assisting or advising Governments of (192) Member States in: i) international standard-setting, treaty-making and implementation; and ii) UNESCO Cultural Property and Heritage Conventions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

– Designed and drafted the first draft instrument and in charge of its intergovernmental negotiation<\/strong> (open to legal and policy experts of 192 Member States) leading to the following instruments: <\/strong><\/p>\n

i) a treaty: the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003)<\/p>\n

ii) the UNESCO Declaration concerning the Intentional Destruction of Cultural Heritage (2003)<\/p>\n

iii) the Draft UNESCO Declaration of Principles relating to Cultural Objects Displaced in Connection with the Second World War (\u201cNazi-looted art\u201d and beyond)<\/p>\n

i) 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its two (1954 and 1999) Protocols (138 States Parties)<\/p>\n

ii) 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property (149 States Parties)<\/p>\n
